News: The sixth annual e-Government National Awards

Sift Media’s recent foray into the world of public sector publishing with the acquisition of PublicTechnology.net included the added bonus of the responsibility of organising and running that title’s annual e-Government National Awards, the primary awards event for the public sector.

The highly sought-after plaudits cover eleven categories of innovative technology implementation which improve public services and both local and central government’s ability to interact with businesses and the public. The awards represent benchmarking of e-Government implementation standards, and are closely monitored by many influential government and public sector individuals. At the recent ceremony in January, a collection of VIP guests including cabinet ministers, high ranking civil servants and leading technology firms were addressed, via a video link, by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Keith Bannister, UK Head of IT Advisory for Government, KPMG, the event’s platinum sponsor said: “We are delighted to be associated with the e-Government awards for the 5th year. This year we have been really impressed with the quality of entries and the excellent projects taking place.”

Kireen Rooney, part of a winning team from Harrow Council which collected the award for Innovation in strategy at a local level, said: “Well done to all those who organised a fantastic event.  It was the first award ceremony that I've attended and made even better by winning!  My only comment is to mention that it would have been nice to continue the celebrations dancing the night away!”

Sift Media’s new and evolving relationship with the public sector promises to present a whole raft of exciting opportunities for our partners and clients. And with a website redesign of PublicTechnology.net well under way, our ability to engage and grow the site’s 150,000+ monthly unique users, delivering advertisers right to the heart of the local and central government, is expected to rapidly increase over the first half of 2010.
