Developing an integrated social media strategy...
There are plenty of gurus, experts and thought leaders, but nobody can profess to know everything when it comes to integrating Social Media with marketing, and nobody can be sure where it will take us in the future. They can however point you in the right direction, advise on effective practice as things currently stand and give case studies of past successes - which is certainly pretty valuable stuff to know!
With this in mind Sift asked its internal experts and specially invited guests to present at the Social Media for Marketing seminar theatre at TFM&A last month – and boy was it popular! With only 30 seats in our specialist theatre we expected things to be busy, but the subject matter proved so popular every session caused chaos with huge crowds blocking the aisles! (apologies should go to our neighbouring exhibitors at this point!)
A range of topics were covered across the two-day show, with perhaps the most popular being the 'Twitter for business' session, from BusinessZone.co.uk Editor Dan Martin, and the sesssion from SiftGroups' Lawrence Clarke, titled 'Creating an Integrated Social Media strategy'. The fact that these sessions were of particular interest to delegates suggests that many marketers know about channels such as Twitter, but are looking to understand how to integrate them as part of the marketing mix.
As suggested at the start of this blog, we don't profess to know everything, but feedback at the event indicated these sessions were seriously useful - you can find out more and view the presentation slides for yourself here. We'll be delivering some interesting case studies soon which involve fully integrated and engaging campaigns, but in the meantime we'd love to hear your examples of successful (or unsucuessful) social media marketing... leave your comments below.

Social Media is Great, but What Do You Use it For?
I think it's definitely possible to create a holisitic strategy and approach to running a successful social media campaign for your business. However, I think there needs to be a separation of what we use Social Media from. That is, Social Media should be used to foster and build community and other tools should be used to spread the word about products, services and promotions. Just my two pennies.
